Fabulous Friday Response

Dear Mrs.Welker,

Today I am going to be comparing the home reading blogs to home reading sheets. The good thing about the blogs that you have spell check to help you out with words that you might spell incorrectly. I really like to be able to comment on my friend's blogs and they can comment on mine. I think that it is amazing that I can see your comments when you make them! I can always go back and review all of my blogs and see changes that I need to make. I can compare my blogs from week one until now.

When I did the home reading sheets I did not have the freedom to express myself and be creative. There were guidelines, guidelines, and guidelines! I was not able to review and compare reading sheets in a very helpful way. I put a limit on keeping the same level of interest. I was only to make changes in my spelling if I had a dictionary or if I waited to review my work at the end. I took less chances with being creative because I thought I might overdo my work.

I found blogging to be a great ways to express myself! I have a blank page and I really begin to think about my thinking. I am ready think about reading and writing in positive ways that I have never thought of before. I ask myself questions and I challenge myself as I write my blogs. I like using the Internet and blogging is the main way that I do that.

Marvelous Monday Response

Dear Miss. Welker,

Today I am reading Charlote's Web.
This story is about a farmer who tries to kill a pig, but a girl tries to save the pig. She also attempts to take care of the pig. The girl's grandfather won`t sell the pig (the need money very badly). My opinion is that she is a very courageous girl.

Before I get to the next chapter I am going to make a few predictions. I think the pig is going to escape away from the girl and get killed. I think they are going to have to sell the pig to help them with their lack of money.

While I was reading I came up with some questions and I wanted them answered. Why was the pig so skinny? The pig was born that ways and the mother did not eat much food. Why did the girl block the selling of the pig? She cared for it and she spent a lot of time with it and she did not want to lose it.

I hope you like Marvelous Monday's Response.

Teriffic Tuesday Response

Dear Mrs. Welker,

I am reading Room One.It is about a boy named Ted who reads about mysteries. My prediction is that Ted is reading mysteries just to see if they will come true. While I was reading I found out that I was right.

I asked a few questions base on what I read. My first question was why was his classmate Mandy making faces at Ted when he spoke to her? I found out that he did not keep a promise that he made to her two years ago. My other question was does Ted's focus on the mysteries have anything to do with Mandy's reaction to him? The answer is no because the mysteries are about bossy grownups and police. Mandy's focus in only on the broken promise.

Base on what I read so far (22 pages) Ted is getting mean faces from Mandy while his attention is fixed on seeing if his mysteries are coming true. Prairie Learning School is a one room school and every activity is held in that room.

Suprising Saturday Response

Dear Mrs.Welker,

I am reading the Adventures of Reddy Fox.The characters in the book are Reddy, Granny,Farmer Brown, Bowser the hound. My prediction is that the book is going to be about a fox who tries to disturb the farmer and the farmer uses his dog to scare the fox. I got to chapter three and I found out that my prediction was wrong.

Right now I am on the fifth chapter. I have only one question: Why did Bowser the hound chase Granny and Reddy? Bowser thought that Granny and Reddy were trying to attack him and the defended himself.

Summary: The story was about a fox who was very adventerous and he got into mischive( but he did not know that he was going to get into mischive). He learned that he could explore and have fun without causing problems.

Super Sunday Response

Dear Mr. Welker,

Today I am reading Birds of Florida. I made the following prediction about the Golden Eagle: The Golden Eagle has its golden color so that it can blend in with sand and capture its prey easily.

While I was reading I raised a few questions. One of my questions was Why is the Golden Eagle similar to the Bald Eagle? I found some facts that support their similarities. They are both juvenile birds and the female birds are bigger than the male birds (Bald and Gold Eagles).

I had a clarification to make as I read the story. I wanted to clarify the word incubation. This word means a waiting period for something to happen or develop. I thought it was very interesting to follow and observe the waiting period (43 to 45 days)for a baby Golden Eagle to be born.

Some more interesting facts are that the baby Eagle has to wait 73 to 75 days before its first flight. Also the Golden swoops down at 70 to 120 miles per to hour to catch its prey.

IT WAS A BLAST TO READ ABOUT THE GOLDEN EAGLE

Teriffic Tusday Response

Dear Mrs. Welker,

I am reading Stone Fox this week. I made a few perdictions at the begining of the story. First of all I think Stone Fox is going to win the race. My reason for this is the fact that he has won every single race in the past.

The little boy in this story had to pay a lot of money to tax collectors. His grandfather is very sick. They really need to win this race and get the $500. The little boy and his dog are a team.

I asked a question as I read the story. The main question was would Stone Fox and his five dogs or the little boy and his dog Searchlite? Searchlite did win the race and this made the boy and his grandfather very happy!

I have some bad news. Searchlite ran so hard until her heart stopped beating and she passed away five feet from the finish line. Stone Fox was so moved by this and he allowed the little boy to carry Searchlite across the finish line. The little boy was happy that he won, but he was sad about losing his best friend.

I hope you enjoyed teriffic Tuesday's response.
