Dear Mrs. Welker,
I am reading Stone Fox this week. I made a few perdictions at the begining of the story. First of all I think Stone Fox is going to win the race. My reason for this is the fact that he has won every single race in the past.
The little boy in this story had to pay a lot of money to tax collectors. His grandfather is very sick. They really need to win this race and get the $500. The little boy and his dog are a team.
I asked a question as I read the story. The main question was would Stone Fox and his five dogs or the little boy and his dog Searchlite? Searchlite did win the race and this made the boy and his grandfather very happy!
I have some bad news. Searchlite ran so hard until her heart stopped beating and she passed away five feet from the finish line. Stone Fox was so moved by this and he allowed the little boy to carry Searchlite across the finish line. The little boy was happy that he won, but he was sad about losing his best friend.
I hope you enjoyed teriffic Tuesday's response.

Wow, this sounds like it was a sad chapter. I really felt bad for the character even though I've never read this book. You did a nice job giving me enough information to be able to understand what was going on in the story. I have a question though, you said "Would Stone Fox and his five dogs or the little boy and his dog Searchlite?" Did you mean would they win? Make sure you proof read your responses! I'd like to see you making some connections to the book. How did events make you feel? Could you connect something in the chapter to another story you've read?
